MICROWAVE OVENS

The microwave development is strictly "hands off' at this state of the art. Microwave ovens require delicate, expensive instruments to test for leakage after any servicing operation. Don't let anyone tamper with a microwave unit unless he has such equipment and is trained to use it.
Microwave ovens use electromagnetic radiation to cook the foods rather than thermal radiation, the principle best illustrated by the standard heating element. The frequency of the magnetron in the microwave oven is such that it causes the molecules of the food to tend to align themselves with the constantly changing field some 2,450 million times per second. The constant, rapid movement causes the food to heat. Of course, there is concern for leakage of this energy from the cabinet of the range hence the large number of safety devices built into the equipment and the required testing procedures. As the state of the art becomes more advanced, solutions to many of today's unanswered questions will be found. With the current popularity of the units and their wide availability in every style from compact portables to top oven units and even combination units with standard elements, it's only a matter of time until servicing procedures are simplified and safety precautions strictly defined. But in the meantime, call a pro if your microwave comes on at any time that the door is open if the door does not appear to seal properly if the door seal becomes damaged or broken in any way, or if any other malfunction occurs.
• Always check the filter below the oven prior to use. Soiled or greasy filters can prevent air from cooling the magnetron tube, which may stop operation.
• Never operate the oven without the filter in place.
• Do not operate the microwave oven with the door open. If, by chance, the oven operates when the door is open call a service technician at once.
• Avoid any possible microwave loss or exposure. Never place anything between oven frame and door such as paper or cloth.

Do not allow soil to build up on door seal, door surface or oven frame. Follow specific cleaning instructions.
