DISHWASHER REPAIR H E L P F U L H I N T
Removing Stains from a Dishwasher. A black coating that builds up oil the sides and bottom of a dishwasher is a sign that the water may be high in mineral content, especially manganese. This is a problem that usually affects water coming from private wells since water supplied by a municipal water company is routinely filtered to remove excessive minerals. If you have this dishwasher problem. Buy a container of acetic acid from a hardware or home supply store. Mix one part of the acetic acid to four parts of water.
If the black residue is heavy, increase the amount of acetic acid to two parts, and reduce the quantity of water to two parts.
Put oil rubber gloves and goggles. Wash the inside of, the dishwasher with the solution. Then throw two tablespoons of baking soda into the empty dishwasher and run it through a complete dishwasher cycle.
Caution: Do not clean the dishwasher with an abrasive cleanser, such as scouring powder. This will rub off thedishwasher finish, whether it is porcelain or plastic.
For stubborn stains. If the stains don't come off with the acetic-acid treatment, do the following:
1. Buy a water-softener resin cleaner from a dealer of plumbing and heating supplies.
2. Pour 5 ounces of the cleaner directly into the empty dishwasher, and fill the dishwasher detergent cup with detergent. If the dishwasher has two detergent cups, fill the one that opens during the second washing. (If only one cup has a lid that is the second Wash cup. If both cups have lids, consult the dishwasher owner's manual to find out which one is the second-wash cup.)
3. Close and latch the dishwasher door. Turn oil the dishwasher. Run it through a complete cycle.
4. Open the dishwasher door. If some stains remain, repeat the procedure only one more time. Overusing a water-softener resin cleaner call result in damage to the plastic parts of a dishwasher.

How to Keep Dishwasher Detergent from Caking
When the weather is cold, dishwasher detergent powder often cakes and adheres to the detergent dispenser. The cause may not lie with the detergent or the dishwasher, but with the home's hot water system. If your main hot water pipe has a very long run in an uninsulated, unheated basement, the temperature of the water may drop too much before it reaches the dishwasher.
To check, turn on the hot water faucet at the sink next to the dishwasher. Let the water run dishwasher it gets as hot as possible. Fill a glass with the hot water. Place a meat or photographic thermometer into the filled glass and place the glass back under the tap. Read the temperature while the hot water is running into the glass.
Caution: Wear heavy rubber gloves to prevent burning your hands.
If the thermometer shows that the temperature is less than 140 degrees, the water is not hot enough to dissolve detergent. To solve your problem, you will have to raise the temperature on your water heater for the winter.
Note: If your dishwasher is equipped with a heater that raises the temperature of the water to a normal preset level established by the dishwasher manufacturer, obviously you won't experience this problem.
Operating Dishwasher Tips
If the dishwasher jams, many of the upper-end dishwashers will instantly reverse direction. Jamming happens when you add waste to a continuous-feed unit (and turn it on) before you start running the water. If the dishwasher stays jammed, first verify that the switch is turned off. Then insert a hex-head wrench (which comes with the disposal and is normally Y in.) into the hex-head hole in the unit bottom, and turn to break it free.

purposes and we aren’t suggesting tips for doing-it-yourself dishwasher repairs.
Repairing and servicing dishwasher units requires knowledge, training
and experience. Trying to fix something that you are not familiar
with can be costly and, more important, dangerous for your safety.
